VP Mike Pence said he’d be happy to see Michael Flynn back in the administration.
The news comes days after the Justice Department dropped charges against President Trump’s former NSA.
In an interview with Axios, Pence said he’d welcome Flynn back to the Trump administration. The charges against Flynn included lying to the FBI and the vice president. If the vice president didn’t mind his return, Flynn could, in fact, find a way back into the administration.
In the Axios interview, Pence calls Michael Flynn an ‘American patriot’. Pence’s approval to have Flynn back in the administration could be crucial. It was to him that the former NSA lied. If Pence stamps his approval on the return of Flynn, the president could bring him back. In the Axios interview, some Trump insiders also said that Flynn would return as the general election campaign kicks off.
Pence Happy to See Flynn Return, Not Former Pres Obama
There is one voice clearly not happy with Flynn’s return to scene – former president Obama.
In an audio leak first reported by Yahoo News, the president is heard talking to his supporters about the DOJ dropping the charges against Flynn.
In the audio, Obama explains that there is no precedent for such an action. Furthermore, he added that the incident brings into question the basic understanding of the law. Generally, the former president has never been overly critical of Trump. This leaked audio clip marks the most scathing criticism of Trump’s administration from Obama since leaving office.
AG Barr Denys Trump’s Involvement
Attorney General Barr denied dropping the charges against former NSA Flynn at the behest of President Trump. Barr stated he is doing his duty as he sees fit during a CBS interview.
Flynn lied to vice president Pence and the FBI about a meeting he had with the Russia ambassador in the United States Sergey Kislyak. This was the reason charges were brought against Flynn only a few weeks after President Trump took office.
