Tara Reade wants Joe Biden to Drop Out of the Presidential Race

Tara Reade wants Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race.

During a televised interview with Megyn Kelley, Reade asked the presumptive Democratic nominee to drop out of the race. This was the first interview Reade gave after Biden publically denied her allegations.

Tara Reade laid allegations of sexual assault against Joe Biden along with seven other women last year. Reade, a former aide of Biden, didn’t pursue the allegations further citing the abuse she got for coming out against the former vice president. She again reiterated her allegations on the Katie Halper Show.

Reade has accused Joe Biden of assaulting her sexually in 1993 when she worked in Biden’s senate staff. In April, she lodged a police complaint against the presumptive nominee of the Democratic party.

Media Coverage of Tara Reade Allegations Grows

After an initial period of dismissal, mainstream news outlets have begun giving Tara Reade’s allegations more coverage. After the New York Times did an autopsy of the accusations against Joe Biden, mainstream remained tepid on following the story.

It was only after Chris Hayes’ segment on MSNBC did the story start making the news again. Many voters in the Democratic coalition want Joe Biden to drop out given the nature of these allegations.

Biden himself had to come out and deny these allegations. However, his denial seems to have made Democratic voters more nervous. In a Morning Consult poll, one out of four Democrats who watched Biden’s denial on television wants a new nominee on the ticket.

This is not great news for Democrats who want to unite the party against Trump right now. Asking Joe Biden to drop out could become another political landmine for the Democrats.

Will Joe Biden Drop Out?

Tara Reade is not alone in asking Joe Biden to drop out. Many Democrats want a candidate they can get behind to defeat Trump. Joe Biden won’t be that candidate if he is playing defence on allegations of sexual assault until November.

Women voters are a key pillar of the Democratic base. As the allegations of sexual assault against Joe Biden gain coverage, Democrats could end up alienating a large part of their base and risk a low turnout. This could effectively hand the race to Trump. There is still no concrete evidence of Joe Biden thinking of dropping out due to the allegations against him made by Tara Reade.
