Indivisible, a progressive group, threw its weight behind Joe Biden for the general elections in November. The move comes at a crucial stage for Biden as he is racking up endorsements and moving closer to his day of coronation as the Democratic nominee.
Biden would appreciate the importance of the endorsement. To win the presidency in November, Biden needs to start building momentum and uniting the party. However, the progressive faction of the party is not very keen to support the former vice president.
Ezra Levin, the co-founder of Indivisible, confirmed the endorsement and called Joe Biden ‘Abraham Lincoln when compared to Donald Trump.’
Group Members behind Biden – Indivisible Co-Founder Greenberg
Co-founder of Indivisible Leah Greenberg stated that over 95% of the group members agreed with Biden’s endorsement.
The group has vowed to keep fighting for progressive policies, but insists the real challenge right now is beating Donald Trump and his greed and racism-fueled agenda. ‘Joe Biden must win’ said Greenberg, ‘and those who empower him must lose’.
The group was founded as a counter to the Trump presidency. It played a vital role in helping Democrats win back the House in 2018. While only 6% of the group’s members were keen on Biden according to a February survey, the group is now firmly behind the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Biden Struggles as Tara Reade Allegations Gain Momentum
The former vice president, who must have been hoping to use this time to attack Trump, is playing defence after allegations against him of sexual assault gain momentum.
There are fringe rumours that the Democrats may have a new candidate by the convention. Biden has himself denied the allegations against him in a written statement and a TV interview. However, recent surveys show 25% of Democrat voters want a different candidate after watching the former vice president’s denial.
