Me Too is Dead (Until a Non-Democrat Gets Accused)

Neera Tanden, the president of the Centre for American Progress, tweeted this the day after the Bernie-Warren story broke. The story claimed that Bernie had told Warren that a woman couldn’t be elected president. This discussion had happened in private, according to the report.

Let’s start with a tweet.

Check the date on the tweet.

In other words, the story was not confirmable. Believe Warren became the Me Too brigade’s slogan. Sanders was sexist despite having an impeccable record on gender equality. In one particular meeting in December of 2018, Sanders suddenly let out his sexist agenda.

It really seems like this story happened many years ago (thank you coronavirus). And yet, it is important to go back to the story now. Why?

Because we may have a real story of a male predator using his position of power to assault a woman. This male predator will soon be the nominee of the Democratic Party to take on Donald Trump.

The type of situation is the reason why the Me Too and Times Up movement rose to prominence.

Democrats and the Me Too Movement

Democrats are great friends of the Me Too movement. When Trump nominated Brett Kavanagh for the Supreme Court, the Democrats and Me Too activists coalesced behind Dr Christine Blasey Ford and took the conservative judge to town.

Besides some of Kavanagh’s ridiculously conservative positions, this was a key reason to stop his confirmation. A man of Kavanaugh’s character was unfit for the Supreme Court. He still is.

The Democrats fought the good fight at the time. There was enough evidence to fight Republicans on Kavanaugh’s confirmation. Democrats were right. Despite Kavanagh eventually getting confirmed as a Supreme Court judge, Me Too activists and Democrats showed the political capital they had.

And now, when the movement needs real courage to call out one of its own, it has failed. The Me Too movement, at least in the form people know it in popular culture, is dead.

Real Courage Lies in Taking on Your Own, Not Enemies

When the Democrats tried to sabotage Kavanagh’s nomination, they did so in opposition to Trump. Taking on Trump takes no real guts if you’re a Democrat. It is easy and comes naturally. When the Democrats dug in their heels and stood alongside Me Too activists to stop Kavanagh’s nomination, it took no real risk or courage to do the same.

For Me Too activists who also happened to hate Trump, taking on his nominee for the Supreme Court didn’t involve any real stakes. Just turn up and state your ideological positions.

The success of any movement is founded in its impartiality in taking on those who stand against its values. The statements of Me Too activists like Alyssa Milano defending Biden and the silence of diurnal feminists like Neera Tanden spells the end of the Me Too movement.

The next time a Republican is accused of sexual assault, all he needs to do is point to the bias of the movement in backing Joe Biden.

Examining the Charges against Joe Biden

Neera Tanden was quick to dunk on Sanders as evident in an aforementioned section. Just to be clear, there was no way the allegations levelled against Bernie could be corroborated.

Compare this to Tara Reade’s allegations against Biden. First, there is a need to acknowledge the gravity of these allegations. Biden is accused of sexual assault. The allegations against Biden are graver when pit against Bernie’s.

Then there is the evidence out there implicating Biden. Tara Reade’s former neighbour has already come forward and said that Reade told her about Biden’s sexual assault. Here, we have a corroborating party (unlike the Bernie-Warren story). Biden’s Senate papers may also contain more evidence confirming Reade’s allegations. The University of Delaware is refusing to release these documents for now.

Where is the outrage against the University of Delaware? Where are Neera Tanden and Alyssa Milano now?

The short-sightedness of the Me Too movement in backing Biden will prove to be their undoing. The movement could have been the cultural underpin to bring real change in society.

Now, the Me Too and Times Up movement is nothing more than a sidearm of the DNC. People like Alyssa Milano have become political hacks pretending to be activists.

The Me Too movement is over, snuffed out by its own hypocrisy.
